Cley-Next-the-Sea, Norfolk

This beautiful garden (in a former quarry!) sought to embrace the property with views onto the grounds beyond.

In order to maintain a sense of seclusion, we introduced a sunken patio dining space, with an inviting lavender walkway up onto the courtyard. A simple pergola was used to frame the view onto a stunning ancient olive, and to create zones in an otherwise open space. The site already had some incredible cathedral stone paths and elements of traditional flint work.

Using this palette and extending the surfaces out into the open garden allowed us to play with a sense of journey and exploration. Our plant scheme for this garden provides year-round interest and, as usual, our use of restrained but carefully curated colours bring cohesion and unity to the wider space.
